Enclosure No.1 of H.E. the Governor's Despatch No.327
of the 23rd August, 1901,
C.O.
176
33335
From the Honourable the Captain Superintendent of Police.
To the Honourable the Colonial Secretary.
Sir,
REC 27 SEP 1901
Police Office,
7th June, 1901.
Now that the Police Armoury is completed, I have
the honour to recommend that the services of an Armourer Sergeant
may be retained to effect the constant repairs which are required
to the large stand of carbines and revolvers now under my control
and to keep clean and in good repair the spades and arms. Hitherto
repairs have been paid for as effected but I am strongly of opin-
ion that it will be more satisfactory to secure the regular attend-
ance of an armourer. To secure the exclusive services of a
qualified man for this department only would entail a consider-
able expenditure, but fortunately one of the Military Armourer
Sergeants is able and willing to attend regularly and take entire
charge of the arms for $35 a month, and as this is a very reason-
able sum I request authority to accept his offer. The money can
be paid from the Vote for "Arms and Ammunition" in which there is
a sufficient balance.
I have etc.,
